“Dealing with an addiction is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of strength!” —James Justin
Is addiction holding you back from achieving the life of your dreams?
Is addiction preventing the successful and happiness of your loved ones?
If so, you are not alone. Nearly 23 million Americans—almost one in 10—are addicted to alcohol or other drugs. Here is a story from one of our clients…
“I smoked pot in college. A lot of people did. I thought it was just a “college thing” …until years later my girlfriend asked me why we had to do ‘pre-game’ (my code for getting high) before practically everything we did, anywhere we went, before I went to bed and the moment I woke up. When she was tired of my behavior, she encouraged me to seek help, and I realized that I had an addiction problem. I’m glad I listened to my girlfriend, and took appropriate steps to break free from it. I actually enjoy my life now, naturally, and it feels better than any ‘high’ I ever got from drugs!”
Don’t let addiction or any obstacles hold you back!
Take control of your life today!
You have the power to transform your life!
You know you can do it, and I believe you can!
So, let’s take the steps needed for your “break free” today!
The term “break free” sounds like a prison escape, doesn’t it? Actually, it is in a way. Not escape from an actual prison, but escape from something that has a hold on you and won’t let you go…won’t let you break free.
I’m here to show you how you CAN break free…from any addiction.
We know from our previous blog entries on addiction that it is often something we use to “hide” from an unwelcome emotion or thought. We also know that the addict believes that he must have the substance or partake in the behavior.
There is one theory that believes that once you are an addict–even if you never took another drink in your life, for example–you are technically, “clinically” always an addict. I don’t believe that.
I believe that God has given you the power to transform your life! You can THINK and take actions to achieve your goals. I believe that with the proper tools, effective counseling and the right MINDSET you can break free from addiction or any obstacle preventing your goals.
In this blog, I’ll share four practical steps you can take to overcome any addiction and transform your life…
4 Steps to Breaking Free from any Addiction
1. Recognize your addiction by mindful attention to the patterns in your daily life, and what triggers your desire for a substance or behavior that you know is destructive. Learn to pause, and deflect thoughts that go against your own will.
2. You must have the desire to break the addiction. Recognizing it is one thing, but wanting to change, wanting to learn how to change, and believing that you can change and taking positive actions to change are vital to breaking these bonds.
3. Seek professional counseling from an experienced and proven therapist, and follow professional recommendations. Educate yourself and read as much as you can about addiction, specifically your addiction. Success is a team sport, and a winning team is required if you want to succeed. Get all the help you need to overcome any obstacle preventing your success and happiness.
4. Develop a growth MINDSET and follow a winning strategy. Your MINDSET is everything. It determines your feelings; your feelings determine your actions; and your actions determine your results. I want to end this addiction series with the following quote from Dr. Victor Frankl, a holocaust survivor and respected psychiatrist… “Between a stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
