The building block for any relationship is communication. In order to develop healthy relationships, we must first understand how to communicate effectively. Communication is defined as, “a process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).
To become an effective communicator, you must first become an attentive listener. A good listener will listen not only to what is being said, but also to what is left unsaid or only partially said. Effective listening involves observing body language and noticing inconsistencies between verbal and non-verbal messages. An effective listener listens twice before he or she speaks. There is a reason why we have two ears and one mouth; perhaps, God wanted us to listen twice before we speak.
As you improve your communication skill, you’ll be able to express yourself more effectively.
