Did you know that by the age of 21, you’ve already stored more than one hundred times the contents of the entire Encyclopedia Britannica? This is the power of your subconscious mind.
The subconscious mind also known as the precocious mind consists of accessible memories stored in your mind. You can become aware of this information once you direct your attention to them. Think of this as memory recall. You walk down the street to your house without consciously needing to be alert to your surroundings. You can talk on the cell phone and still drive home safely.
You can easily bring to consciousness the subconscious information about the path to your home. You can also easily remember phone numbers that you frequently use. Your subconscious mind is like a super hard drive of a super computer. Its capacity is virtually unlimited. It permanently stores everything that ever happens to you and around you.
Your subconscious mind is an unquestioning servant that works day and night to make your behavior fits a pattern consistent with your emotionalized thoughts, hopes and desires. Your subconscious mind has what is called a homeostatic impulse to keep you in balance physically and psychologically.
The Role of the Subconscious
The 2 primary functions of your subconscious mind are as follow:
1. To store information, memories and events of your life
2. To retrieve data as needed.
The job of your subconscious mind is to ensure that you respond exactly the way you are programmed. Your subconscious mind makes everything you say and do fit a pattern consistent with your “self-concept programming or conditioning”
Your subconscious mind is subjective. It does not think or reason independently; it merely obeys the commands it receives from your conscious mind.
Your subconscious mind also practices homeostasis in your mental realm, by keeping you thinking and acting in a manner consistent with what you have done and said in the past.
All your habits of thinking and acting are stored in your subconscious mind. It has memorized all your comfort zones and it works to keep you in them.
Your subconscious mind causes you to feel emotionally and physically uncomfortable whenever you attempt to do anything new or different, or to change any of your established patterns of behavior. You can feel your subconscious pulling you back toward your comfort zone each time you try something new. Even thinking about doing something different from what you’re accustomed to will make you feel tense and uneasy.
However, if you want to transform your life, you must think outside of the box and take some calculated risks to achieve your goals. Virtually, everyone who achieved greatness disciplined their thoughts, feelings and take actions to achieve the life of their dreams. They challenged their comfort zone so that they can get what they want in life.
Your subconscious mind plays a major role in your life. It’s stores and retrieve information received through your senses and as directed by your conscious mind. It’s responsible for your emotional side; and 80% decisions you make is based on your emotions. That is why it’s critical that you understand how your subconscious mind works and use it to transform your life. The more you understand how your conscious mind works, the better you can use it in the process of achieving the life of your dreams.
